The Power of Fear and Control
The people who worry the most are the least free.
Do you ever stop and wonder why some people seem carefree? In contrast, others are constantly bogged down by worries about the shady affairs of the government, a collapse of the economy, the next potential war, or an approaching election.
Too often, I would hear people talking about the news and how I should be concerned about the chaos going on all around the world. But what if I told you that worrying too much about these things keeps you from achieving real freedom?
There were moments from my past when I allowed the external world to control me. One time in particular was during the Great Financial Crisis of 2008. I was a sleep-deprived business owner, wrestling with the uncertainty of whether my business could survive and still keep food on the table for my family. Deep down, I knew I couldn’t magically alter the global financial scene, but in the thick of it, I didn’t quite grasp how much this chaos was wreaking havoc on my very soul. Then came a revelation, a turning point. I realized the key to pulling myself out of this mess wasn’t wasting it on the world's chaos, but it was within me. I made a pact with myself - no more wasting energy and precious time on things beyond my control and no more being ruled by fear.
Fear is like the puppet master pulling the strings, and control is the puppet following every command.
We’re taught to fear authority from a young age, such as our parents, teachers, and law enforcement. It’s not that authority is inherently bad, but the way fear is used as a tool to make us comply is where things get tricky. Our childhood conditioning is reinforced through a system of rewards and punishments. We don’t want to be controlled, but it is familiar and comforting to us because of our prior experiences.
As we grow older, the range of our fears expands - fear of failure, social rejection, and physical harm. Those in power use our worry as tools to manipulate and control us. How often have you made decisions based on fear rather than what’s genuinely good for you? The fear of losing your job might force you to endure terrible working conditions, or the fear of social rejection might push you to conform even when it goes against your beliefs. We end up being mere cogs in this giant machine.
Humans have become the most controllable resource, and our individuality and personal freedom get threatened at each corner. It’s like living in a world where you constantly look over your shoulder, worried about what might happen next.
Now, let’s dive into a topic close to my heart: the economy. Have you ever heard of fractional reserve banking? It’s a system where banks lend out more money than they have in reserves. This creates money not backed by anything tangible and leads to inflation. The Federal Reserve holds the strings, manipulating interest rates and controlling the money supply. The result? Economic instability and fear in the population. Inflation creeps in, making it harder for you to maintain your standard of living. This financial insecurity becomes a powerful tool for those in power to keep us in check. One day, we can only pray for the creation of a decentralized currency outside the control of immoral authority.
So, what’s the cure for such a terrifying reality? It’s recognizing that true freedom comes from within and is not dependent on external circumstances. When you’re truly free, the government’s latest move, the state of the economy, or who’s running for office becomes less of a priority.
Picture a world where you make decisions based on your values, not out of fear. Imagine living a life where the anxieties of economic instability or pressure from societal norms don’t dictate your choices or hold any power over you. True freedom is about reclaiming your autonomy, standing tall in the face of fear, and making choices that align with your authentic self.
People in your life will tell you it’s impossible, you can’t be free, and it will never happen. Now, here is the most important part: If you are not going to live with integrity, the world clearly has no chance.
Everything changes when you shift your focus from the chaos outside to the peace within. Suddenly, the political circus becomes less of a concern because you’ve discovered your inner strength. The economy’s ups and downs? They become waves that you learn to ride, not tsunamis that threaten to drown you.
Question the status quo, challenge those who wish to knock you off course, and break free from their control over your mind. It might seem natural to worry about what’s happening around us, but your worry is a trap and a cage that limits your freedom.
Arm yourself with knowledge, become financially literate, and surround yourself with connections that uplift and support your freedom and individual liberty.
